What is Trauma-Informed Care? (Antje Horsch)

Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is an approach in the human service field that assumes that an individual is more likely than not to have a history of trauma. Trauma-Informed Care recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role trauma may play in an individual’s life- including service staff. Trauma-Informed Care calls for a change in organizational culture, it ensures administrative commitment to integrating a trauma-informed culture, provides professional serious training to staff, makes sure there is an internal trauma team for support and includes both providers and providees in planning and evaluation of services.
